Time for Rest - MMS
Good day my good friend.
The story of Rest and Be Thankful - a short section of the A83 linking rural communities in Scotland towards the Mull of Kintyre (yes, that one) - is one of asking the price of resilience. This road is frequently blocked by landslides, so much so that Transport Scotland is spending near enough £500m on a tunnel to stop the road being blocked. That is after many remedial works over the years to no avail.
Is this worth it, though? Economists may argue that spending so much on a solution for some small rural communities isn’t worth the spend. The people in those communities would say otherwise. Meanwhile, transport engineers would say that we have the solutions, so why not do something?
