Mobility Matters Special - I'm mad at Substack
Good day my good friend.
Well, its not really. Substack updated the writers dashboard yesterday, and the scheduled posts that I spent a good amount of time writing disappeared. I’m annoyed. Extremely annoyed. I don’t have the time to re-write content at an hours notice, so here is a link to a great transport history video on Roman Roads in the UK by Paul and Rebecca Whitewick.
If you want to learn more about the impacts of the roads that the Romans built, there are several great papers. This one goes into detail on the design process that the Romans took. This is a great paper on the role that the roads could have played in developing a sense of place during Roman times. Finally, this paper demonstrates a close correlation (but not quite causation) between the locations of Roman roads and modern human activity.
So, it would seem that the Romans did do something for us after all.
