This is the mega project that is so big you could call it a Gigaproject. And chances are you have never heard of it. The Continental Free Trade Area in Africa has led to a boost in commerce, but the transport network doesn’t support it. The solution is simple - build a Trans-African Highway Network.

Now you are probably thinking - why should we build roads? For a simple reason. In a context where the highway network is very poor, new roads literally change lives. We see road building from a context of a highly developed highway network. Much of Africa does not have that. For example, in Chad, of its 40000km of highways, just over 200km is paved. Car dependence is bad, but highway networks are good.
