Good day my good friend.
This is a post that I did not expect to write during the Christmas period. I expected right now to be sat at home, on my sofa, and generally relaxing and doing very little.
It seems the world does not work like that. Sometimes the world just forces your hand when people say and do stupid things. In this case, it was the owners of Substack forcing my hand.
You may have seen just before Christmas that the owners of Substack said that they will not ban Nazi symbols or rhetoric on their platform. If we have learned anything from the last 10 years or so, its that engaging with people who spout Nazi and extremist rhetoric tends to empower them and their message rather than stop them.
I cannot, in good conciousness, stay on a platform that does not do anything about such a thing. Fighting a losing battle is one thing - at least you are fighting. But all evil needs to do to win is for good people to do nothing. If you won’t even make the effort, that speaks a lot about you.
Plus associating with people allowing hate speech goes against my general “don’t associated with a***holes” policy.
What does this all mean? For you, relatively little, actually. I still plan to publish my blog 3 times weekly. You will still get it for free, and it will be the same nonsense that I write. But it will be from a new home - mobilitymatters.io.
Over the course of January, I will transfer everything in Substack over that new home. This will take some time to do, and so the new site will likely represent a work in progress for that time. But it won’t stop you receiving newsletters.
Speaking of which, if you already subscribe, your email will be transferred over to the new website and you will get the newsletters as normal from 8th January - except from a new address.
If you are looking to subscribe for the first time, there will be no more posts here on Substack. To sign up, go to mobilitymatters.io, and sign up there. I will leave this up on Substack to point everyone to the new home until Substack decide to delete this account.
I will also be transferring my existing business - Mobility Lab - to come under the Mobility Matters brand. That will take a little longer, and I will update you on progress as and when I can.
In the meantime, thank you all for your continued support. I hope that you are all having a very Merry Christmas, and a great break. I will see you all in the New Year, and on the new website!
James
Well done James, fully support your stance and having heard this will now avoid everything substack, let the grey wolves wallow in their own sh**
